As a member of the Westshore Chamber Tourism committee I had mentioned at a meeting last year that visitors to my Bed & Breakfast, from outside of the area, were confused as to where the WestShore was, and that there was no city named as such. Further discussion occured and others on the and location. Later it was decided to go futher and seek input as to the idea of Re Branding of the name Westshore. Thus project to "Rebrand" Westshore was born....
My own personal experience was in Washington state, attending a conference in Tri cities area. The airport was called Tri Cities, and when I arrived I found no city with that name. In fact unknown to me it was Kenewick, Pasco, & Richmond, all named as one "Tri Cities". Everyone in the area knew where that was, but not me as a visitor, finally a taxi driver was able to resolve the confusion.
I fee strongly that Westshore although being a nice name, does not clearly inform visitors and perhaps to locals, just where this area was. Perhaps a better definition or a new name to describe::Langford, Colwood, View Royal, Highlands & Metchosin, be selected.
Since then Committee Chair has brought the matter foward and has now taken this to the level of seeking input from our community and support from our Municipalities.
As each Municipality has its on unique identity, perhaps the WestShore or Westshore, may not be the appropriate syonym, however, I do have some logo suggestions that may assist, and look forward to the opportunity to bring this to the "ReBranding Forum"
